Women’s hockey takes gold
The Cougars women’s hockey team won their first ACAC Championship in four years, after defeating the NAIT Ooks three games to one. The championship is the fourth overall for the team who won their first title in 2003 followed by back-to-back wins in 2004 and 2005 as well. The Cougars finished the regular season in first-place with a record of 16-6-1-1 and 34 points while the Ooks placed second with 26 points.
In the best-of-five series, the Cougars took game one on their home ice before the Ooks tied things up in Edmonton. The Cougars regained control winning their next two straight 4-2 and 5-1 to take the title. Cougar Athletics also had its annual awards night on March 25. Female rookie of the year went to Julia Pasieka of the women’s volleyball team and male rookie of the year went to Jarron Mueller of the men’s volleyball
team. Male athlete of the year went to Brett Kobe of the men’s basketball team and female athlete of the year went to Christina Hodgson of the women’s hockey team. Cougar Athletics picks up again in August with golf.
