Music Review | MONKEY MAJIK: Southview
“Southview” is the 10th studio album by Japanese-Canadian electro-rock band MONKEY MAJIK and because of the bands Japanese roots, it’s probably flying under most of our radars. “Southview” often infuses classic sounds still prominent in Japan, such as jazz, while paying homage to less prominent — but equally important — sounds, such as disco.
The track Undercover, for example, fuses the rock sound with something that sounds like something straight off of Random Access Memories, but a track like Delicious pays homage to ’80s disco with Maroon 5 and other genres scattered throughout the track. “Southview” has some great inspiration behind it.
