SA media release on Melnyk
President’s resignation
CALGARY – On Jan. 25, 2012, SAMRU Students’ Council regretfully accepted the resignation of the President, Meghan Melnyk. This event was the culmination of a series of processes and reviews undertaken by members of Council, who had conducted one of two periodic reviews of the performance of each elected executive.
This review identified several potential anomalies and policy compliance issues for which Council was unable to receive a satisfactory explanation within a reasonable time frame. Council did not have sufficient confidence that its highest standards had been applied. Insufficient evidence was put forth to assuage Council’s concerns in this matter.
As a consequence, effective immediately, Ms. Melnyk has resigned. The presidential duties will be distributed among the remaining three members of the Executive Committee until the handover to the new 2012-13 Executive team on May 15.
In addition, the remaining executives with the assistance of Students’ Council will continue to review the remaining outstanding items to ensure that the objectives and standards of Council have been addressed in the most thorough manner possible and to develop any recommendations for improvements to controls and processes going forward.
