CD Review: Pacific Myth by Protest the Hero
Much like Volition before it, Protest the Hero’s Pacific Myth is a softer take on the bands hard-hitting metal sound. Where Volition was a revolution that made us wanting more, Pacific Myth refines the “softer” tones the band has been searching for, while still delivering a great metal album. Even though the band doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel, it’s still an incredible ride — take a listen to the ultra-technical “Cold Water” or the melodic piano tons of “Harbinger” to see how the band is still pushing the barrier.
While not necessarily a “new release,” as Pacific Myth was released serially over several months, a remixed and remastered physical release hit store shelves on Nov. 18. Pacific Myth is exactly what you’d expect from a Toronto-area progressive band, even though it’s EP designation makes it a little short.
