Were we right?
Was our self proclaimed movie critic correct? Did he predict who would be taking that little golden man home? Quick recap of the Oscar awards that matter (sorry to all the art directors out there)
Best Actor
Our pick: Sean Penn
Winner: Sean Penn! Yes, we’re Commie loving homos here at the Reflector too!
Best Supporting Actor:
Our pick: Heath Ledger
Winner: Heath Ledger – imagine the uproar if he didn’t win. I feel bad for the rest of the guys though. Especially after the kind words the past winning supporting actors shared with the nominees. It was a tearful acceptance speech from Ledger’s family and a well deserved award.
Best Actress:
Our pick: Meryl Streep
Winner: Kate Winslet. Oops! We were wrong here, but I don’t think we’re that disappointed. It was basically between Streep and Winslet and it’s about time our favorite Kate got her man.
Best Supporting Actress:
Our pick: Penelope Cruz
Winner: Penelope Cruz. The lovely Cruz, the first Spaniard to win an acting award, was almost ready to faint but we’re glad she didn’t.
Best Director:
Our pick: Danny Boyle
Winner: Danny Boyle. It’s really no surprise that British director picked this one up. After being thanked numerous times by other Slumdog Millionaire winners, it was great to congratulate the man who put it together. He obviously had a great team with him, they all deserved their wins.
Best Picture:
Our Pick: Slumdog Millionaire
Winner: Slumdog Millionaire. It really was no surprise that the rags-to-riches story made it to the top. After Boyle’s win and the love it was receiving in other categories it was fun to see some of the cast and crew pile on to the stage with the producer. To be one of the kids’ in the film, going from the slums of Mumbai to the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, it is an unbelievably heart warming story.
So maybe our flick loving movie critic knows what’s he talking about. 5/6 is pretty good.
