Students doing student things around MRU

Jessica Coad
Second-year Business Administration, majoring in Marketing
The Reflector: Why did you chose MRU?
Jessica Coad: It came down to a choice between Haskayne (U of C Business Department) and MRU and when I got my acceptance to Haskayne I had already put a deposit down at MRU to hold my spot and I just thought ‘I’ll just go to MRU and then I can switch in second year’, but I’m actually really glad I picked here because I don’t want to switch and I like it here a lot better.
TR: What is something no one would know about MRU business students?
JC: I think maybe the business kids are kind of seen as very professional and workaholic type people and maybe we don’t have a lot of fun, but we do! There is that side with business and you have to be professional, but we’re just like other students and we’re not a cult!
TR: What extracurricular activities do you do outside of class here at MRU?
JC: I spend a lot of my time with Enactus. I’m the project lead for uGrow and it’s a project that focuses on employing lower income individuals to fill these garden boxes and then we want to sell them to individuals in the community and create a social enterprise. That way we are encouraging, not only the aspects of the social enterprise where we are helping the less fortunate get a job and be able to provide for themselves and their families, but encouraging home growing and environmental sustainability. We’re bringing both the business side, the education side and the social aspect to it.
TR: What is the dumbest thing you’ve done on MRU campus?
JC: OH MY GOD! Let me just go through the list in my memory bank. Last year – the stairs by Tim’s, I got out of class and I was going to get food and I 100 per cent tripped UP the stairs in front of EVERYBODY and I did that in my first day of high school too, so that’s just a common trend, I trip upstairs a lot, in front of people. I make sure it’s in front of people.
TR: What is your fav place to eat on campus?
JC: Sals! Ya, definitely yes!
TR: Where can you be found most on campus?
JC: If I’m not in class, I’m always in Slate. So EB, top floor of the business building. I’m always in there, I don’t leave really ha-ha!

Editors note: When I was done interviewing Jessica, she headed over to Sal’s, grabbed a flat bread and made her way over to EB up to Slate. The girl’s got a routine!
