CD Review: Wild World by Bastille
Bastille’s new album Wild World was well worth the wait. The lyrics of each song flow together like lines of poetry, and the samples used from some of the band’s favourite films add a unique layer to the album as a whole. One of the most breathtaking things about Bastille’s style is the ability they have to make songs with heavy topics feel lighthearted and fun, and in the process making them even more heartbreaking. A great example of this is their first single off of the album, “Good Grief,” which deals with the bizarre nature of grief and loss, while remaining happy-sounding and upbeat. By incorporating percussion and unique sound effects throughout the album, Bastille creates the kind music that keeps people discovering new sounds with every listen. Sounds resemble everything from modulated farts to small scale construction projects and string ensembles. Wild World is definitely worth a listen.
