MRU should not have become a University in the first place. It wasn’t ready. Now they are cutting critical job positions and student space due to lack of money. They try to blame the government, when really its the Board and LEadership team to blame. Shame on you MRU. What a joke. Cheapest “University” there is. I’ve worked there, and would never work or go to school there after this fiasco. Fricking gongshow.

The faculty cuts are coming largely through retirements and normal attrition, those positions won’t be replaced. That will save the institution a lot of money as those people will be at the higher end of the pay scale.

Ultimately it is Advanced Education that bears the blame. The province made commitments that encouraged the Board to approve given expenditures, and now that it’s time to write the cheque, Premier Redford is having second thoughts. It’s a situation no one wants to be in, our fiscal structure at a provincial level is out of whack and based largely on hope, not good planning. To blame the Board and institution is short-sighted.

There may be legitimate gripes against the administration, but this isn’t one of them. As for student space, that’s not addressed here so where that’s coming from is hard to see; MRU has taken efforts to create more student space and when the conservatory opens a whole wing will be opened up for settlement by students and faculty. Then the library…

You can only play the cards you’re dealt, and when the dealer steals back a few of those cards, it’s not your fault for having a crappy hand.
