The people’s person: Putting Vince Vaughn to shame
Nov 28th, 2009 | By PublishingEditor | Category: Blogs, The people's person
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson may have introduced us to the world of wedding crashing, but Michaele and Tareq Salahi took the art of crashing a party to a whole new level.
Earlier this week, President Obama held a party at the White House in honour of the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.
Along with Obama, the party included guests like Vice President Joe Biden, CBS anchor Katie Couric, and of course reality-star wannabes, the Salahis.
As it turns out, however, the prospective stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of D.C. were not on the guest list.
But that seemed to be no matter for the couple as they not only made it into the White House, but met Obama himself.

Since then, there has been a media frenzy surrounding the White House with questions of security, and CBS’s Bob Orr even went so far as to call the situation, “The most notorious break-in since Watergate.”
Now that seems a little drastic to me, but the situation definitely raises some questions. The Secret Service has taken full responsibility for what occurred and an investigation has been launched as to how this could have happened.
What is confusing to me is that Homeland Security prevents me from taking an uncovered tube of Chapstick onto a plane but I could theoretically get into the White House and shake Obama’s hand?
Something just doesn’t add up.
While I’m not arguing that safety precautions at the airport aren’t necessary, it just seems a little backwards that the elite of society can come within a foot of the President without so much as an invitation, while the rest of us can’t go within a mile of an airplane without going through 18 security checks.
Ok, so airplanes and the White House aren’t really the same thing, but security is security.
The American government shouldn’t perpetuate this need for security by using tools like the “homeland security threat level” if they can’t even protect the country’s leader.
Security issues aside, if they weren’t already, it’s probably safe to say that Bravo is drawing up the contracts right now for the couple to join their latest “Housewives” show.
While the couple’s actions reek of a balloon boy-esk publicity stunt, you have to give the couple credit for having the balls to crash a White House party.
Eat your heart out Vince.
