The people’s person: Can you leggo your Eggo?

Nov 21st, 2009 | By PublishingEditor | Category: Blogs, The people's person

Where have all the frozen waffles gone? This is perhaps one of the most pressing issues facing America today.

According to Kellogg, the world needs to brace itself for an Eggo shortage until at least the middle of next year, after two of their four plants faced some problems during production.

Recently, their Atlanta plant was shut down due to flooding and their largest plant in Rossville, Tenn. has also closed indefinitely for repairs.

This waffle crisis has left many people feeling empty, hollow and missing the most important meal of the day.

MSNBC recently talked to stay-at-home mom, Joey Resciniti from Pennsylvania, after she bought one of the last boxes of Eggos from the shelves of Walmart in her town of Cranberry Township.

“We have eight of them, and if we ration those — maybe have half an Eggo in one sitting — then it’ll last longer,” said Resciniti.

One can only hope that her neighbourhood grocery store still carries flour, eggs, milk, baking powder and if she’s lucky, maybe even sugar.

This may be the best-kept secret in America, but with just a few simple ingredients one can actually make their own waffles. GASP!

Hard to imagine, but they have actually invented a machine that will iron waffles into an Eggo-like shape. One of these machines can be purchased for around $30 from Walmart — a one-time purchase that may save consumers some dough (pun-intended) even after the Eggo shortage is over.

So while you may be pining over your lack of blueberry and chocolate chip frozen goodness in the morning, here’s an idea: try making your own waffles that don’t come in a box.

And if all else fails, give Cheerios a shot.

  3. I thought the guy dressed as a breathalyzer was a fine blog, but this waffle-revelation definitely takes the cake. I know I will be seriously affected by this shortage, guess I’ll have to find other breakfast avenues such as those few simple ingredients to make my own!
